Usually suitable for 1–4 passengers. With 2 or 3 passengers, 4 large suitcases can still work, but there is little room for extra items.

Practical arrival guide

Keflavik Airport to Reykjavik: what to expect

KEF is outside the capital—not in Reykjavík. A little planning before you land makes the first hour in Iceland much easier.

≈ 50 km

Airport to city

Central Reykjavík is normally a 45–50 minute drive from Keflavík Airport. Conditions can add time, especially in winter.

After landing

Passport, bags, customs

Clear immigration if required, collect your luggage and walk through customs. Your private pickup starts in the arrivals hall—not at a bus terminal.

Private vs bus

Pay for time or convenience

A public or airport coach is usually cheaper for one traveler. A private transfer takes your group directly to one address and becomes more compelling with several people, children or heavy luggage.

Airport pickup process

From touchdown to the car

  1. 01

    Your flight is tracked

Use the flight number that lands at KEF when you book. NorthTrip monitors the flight’s arrival time.

  2. 02

    Collect your luggage

Immigration and baggage times vary. If the queue is unusually long, a short WhatsApp update helps the driver follow your progress.

  3. 03

    Meet in arrivals

Your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall, helps with luggage and takes your group directly to the booked address.

Arrival & Departure Combos

Keflavik Airport + Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is about 23 km from KEF—roughly a 20-minute drive in normal conditions. That makes arrival or departure day the efficient time to combine it with your airport transfer instead of returning from Reykjavík on a separate day.

  • Book Blue Lagoon admission separately
  • Agree your collection time in advance
  • Confirm luggage arrangements when booking

Transportation only. Blue Lagoon admission is NOT included and must be booked separately.

Frequently asked questions

Before you arrive in Iceland

How long is the transfer from Keflavik Airport to Reykjavik?

The drive is about 50 km and normally takes around 45–50 minutes. Traffic, weather and your exact Reykjavík address can affect the time.

Where will my driver meet me at KEF?

Your NorthTrip driver meets you inside the arrivals hall after you collect your luggage and pass through customs. Your booking confirmation will contain the meeting details.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

NorthTrip tracks the flight number you provide. If immigration or baggage collection is taking unusually long after landing, message the driver so they know your progress.

Is the estimated price per person?

No. The calculator shows the estimated total for your private vehicle, not a per-person fare. Final availability, vehicle and price are confirmed when booking.

Is a private Keflavik Airport taxi better than the airport bus?

It depends on your group. A bus is often cheaper for a solo traveler. A private transfer is direct to your accommodation, avoids shared stops and can make more sense for families, groups, late arrivals or travelers with substantial luggage.

Can I book a Blue Lagoon airport transfer on arrival or departure day?

Yes. The Blue Lagoon is much closer to KEF than to Reykjavík, so combining it with an airport transfer can save backtracking. Lagoon admission is not included and must be booked separately.

What is the difference between a round trip and a Combo?

A round trip returns to the same starting location. Arrival Combo is KEF → Blue Lagoon → Reykjavik; Departure Combo is Reykjavik → Blue Lagoon → KEF. Each Combo includes both transport legs. Blue Lagoon admission is separate. Select the matching journey type in the calculator.

When should I choose a van?

Choose the van for five to eight passengers, more than four large suitcases, or four passengers with four large suitcases. Two or three passengers with four large suitcases can still use a small vehicle, with a caution about the practical luggage limit. Confirm oversized items or extra cabin luggage with NorthTrip before booking.

Is Keflavik Airport the same as Reykjavik Airport?

No. Keflavík International Airport (KEF) handles most international flights and is about 50 km from Reykjavík. Reykjavík Airport (RKV) is a separate domestic airport in the city. Most visitors looking for a Reykjavík airport transfer from an international flight need the KEF route.
